Psalm 13 depicts man's sense of aloneness and abandonment during troubling times. Sometimes life appears bleak and we have a tendency to react to circumstances, forgetting that God's promises are tried and true, never failing. It is a mistake to focus our gaze on people and events rather than on our trustworthy God. He is the One who is able do a work in these areas and bring about a good conclusion.
In times of trouble, God's desire is to be a refuge for us, a safe haven where we might weather the storms of life in safety. Our feelings are what sway us away from God's firm grasp and it is only when we CHOOSE to stand firm in His promises that we can experience the peace we are so hungry for in the midst of troubles.
Psalm 13
How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart daily?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and hear me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes,
Lest I sleep the sleep of death;
Lest my enemy say,
"I have prevailed against him";
Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
But I have trusted in Your mercy;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
